We are very serious breeders and not a puppy mill. We show our dogs and we sell the puppies to other serious owners that take very good care of their puppies. We only breed each bitch once a year for a maximum of 5-6 litters the full life time of the bitch. We do not breed until after the age old two years old and all health exams a done. The bitch / dog must have clear eyes and hips that passing scores. There must not be any genetic faults or conditions that would be passed on to the next generation.
We test 1) Eyes 2) Hips 3)Attitude 4) Herding attitude 5) For any genetic faults 6 ) Last but not least... Conformation must be at the top of the standard.
We will not breeding any Buhund that has faults. We would rather breed a GREAT individual more than the recommended amount, than to breed an average Buhund once.
All of our breeding is done under the supervision of Dr. Tammy Eichmann, DVM.
The right Buhunds will become a AKC Champion and Grand Champion under our breed program. We admit not all of our puppies will be show dogs. We will screen each litter. Pets will go to pet homes with limited registrations. All breeding possible puppies will be co-owned until 2 years old and all health tests are done and the individual has passed them. All breeding puppies must pass the health exams and show until they receive their AKC or respective CH before we will release the co-ownership.
We have outdoor kennels and we have a dog room for crating at night when weather does not permit outdoor living. We have our Buhunds come in and be family with us after dinner and before bedtime. (movie time or just doggy time) They get walked daily and/ or get to be loose on the farm with us while we are driving the ATV around. (the most favorite doggy activity) Some are also trained to the treadmill which helps them get extra energy out. They get toys to chew and games to play. We are developing a doggy playground and hope to have it up in the near future.
We screen our potential buyers and keep communications with all our puppy owners. We sell with a contract for immediate ownership back if for any reason the new owner cannot care for the puppy.
We hope to establish good working relations with all Buhund breeder around the world.
One day we hope to go to Crufts. We have two of our Buhunds that have been invited. (so far)
We take our job as Norwegian Buhund Breeders seriously. We are always looking for the BEST IN THE BREED to breed to and to purchase for our breed program.
If you are a Norwegian Buhunds Breeders and you feel our standards meet yours, then let's talk and make beautiful Buhunds together... We are always interested in talking with Buhund breeders world wide to create the best we can. To develop a wide variety of blood lines and to maintain the standards of the motherland.
This is from the NBCA Website:
Reputable breeders . . .
require a contract, which varies from breeder to breeder, but spells out the rights of seller and buyer, health information, altering and buy-back or return policies.
require that pet-quality animals be spayed or neutered. Be wary of breeders who do not mention altering.
shows a general interest in, love for, and knowledge of the breed. He or she cares about placing puppies in appropriate homes and will often interview potential buyers thoroughly, ask for references and may refuse to sell a dog.
will guarantee a puppy's general health for a certain period of time, which varies from state to state under puppy lemon laws. While no one can guarantee against inheritable diseases, a reputable breeder is well-informed about genetic problems in her particular breed or bloodlines, routinely has dogs/pups tested for problems and passes this information along to buyers. Beware of breeders who scoff at genetic testing and say their particular breed/line is problem-free.
will disclose any known heritable or disqualifying conditions in the parents of the puppies.
will provide proof of hip (OFA, FCI or PenHip) and eye (CERF) certification
will be willing to allow you into the kennel or home in which their dogs are kept, and these areas should be clean and well-maintained.
is actively involved in the dog fancy, including showing or breed clubs. While there are exceptions, a person who is not involved with others in the breed can be suspect.***(see comments below)
is willing to provide answers to questions you may have and is willing to provide names of others who have purchased pups.
will allow you to meet the puppy's parents if available.
follows up on puppies. He or she is interested in how the pups develop physically and mentally, difficulties in the owner/dog relationship and health problems.
will take their puppies/dogs back at any age.
rarely has more than 4 litters a year.
never sells to a pet shop or through pet brokers. A reputable breeder does not sell puppies through a pet shop, nor do they offer puppies for auction or sale at flea markets or other such venue
***We agree with the above statements. However, the NBCA is by invitation only and they deny membership without explaination. Thus it is a closed membership forum. So ASK WHY a breeder is not a member of this group. Some will just not care, others will not be a member due to not being allowed to be a member.
